Abstract

This article examines the expression of the concept of “determination” in literary style through various linguistic means. In particular, it analyzes lexical units expressing determination (such as oath, I believe, I am certain, necessary, obligatory), phraseological units (to give one’s word, to make up one’s mind), sentence constructions (I swear by the truth, I am fully convinced that), various poetic devices (repetition, chiasmus, gradation), and pleonastic usages. Their functions and stylistic interpretations in literary discourse are illustrated with relevant examples.
