Abstract

This article discusses the invaluable contribution of Shaykh Farid al-Din ʿAttar to the theme of Love in literary art and to the development of its poetics. The study presents conclusions regarding the extent to which Shaykh Farid al-Din ʿAttar’s works engage with the themes of divine love and spiritual knowledge, and how profoundly the poetics of love is manifested in his tvorchestvo. Particular attention is given to the interpretation of divine love in the narrative of “Shaykh Sanʿān,” which forms part of the epic poem Manṭiq al-Ṭayr, where the depth and intensity of the portrayal of divine love are clearly revealed.
